Punjab NGO Co-ordination Council (PNCC), while condemning the attack on the office of Agha Khan Foundation at Chitral has announced that the NGOs would hold protests meetings throughout the country. PNCC Secretary General Shafiq-ur-Rahman said this in a press conference here on Wednesday. He said that it was sad incident in which two people were killed. "It seems extremists were behind the crime, as they have shown anti-NGO attitude," he alleged.
According to him, NGOs were playing a vital role in the development of the country and uplift of the masses, and were supplementing the efforts of the government, and they deserve a better treatment. Such violence against the NGOs would discourage them from working in the development sector.
He demanded of the NWFP government to take up the matter and award punishment to the culprits. Moreover, the Federal government should hold an inquiry of the incident and release its findings to the public, he added.
He also appealed for donations for the victims of the Asia calamity that was caused by Tsumami in the Indian Ocean. He said that they have constituted a committee comprising representatives of various NGOs for the purpose and were in contact with the governments and international and national organisations for raising funds. "We were also planning to send volunteers to the Tsumami hit areas for rescue work," he added.
