The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) stopped a number of export containers at Port Qasim on Wednesday from loading on to the vessel Maersk Alska. Few containers contained home textile items, which were meant for sale at a big departmental store in Europe on the New Year eve. The shipping company has informed its customers that their containers have been held by the ANF at Port Qasim.
This is the third instance of shutting out of export containers at Port Qasim International Container Terminal(QICT) in just a month.
The chairman Pakistan Bedwear Exporters Association(PBEA), Shabbir Ahmed, said the holding of export containers by ANF might result in cancellation of export orders. The exporters would now have to despatch the goods by air and offer discount to the buyer.
He has sent a fax to Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz requesting him to take up the issue at the Federal Export Board meeting scheduled for January.
