The industrialists and business community has urged the government to reduce import duty on small gas power generating equipment which can be installed in industrial units to keep them running in emergency. Reacting on power cable breakdown in Site industrial area, repair of which is likely to take another two days, the industrialists said that at a time they were at the threshold of WTO regime the load shedding going on continually throughout the day with two hours interval in Site.
That had been causing a great deal of problems in running their factories and ultimately resulting in huge production loss, besides meeting international orders.
They said KESC source of power supply was totally unreliable. It was needed the industrialists must have alternative arrangement to keep units running in case of power failure from KESC source.
They said the shipping date before phasing out of Multi Fiber Agreement was December 31, 2004, and heavy interruption in power supply was bound to reduce the production and its final finishing before the target shipment date.
According to Site Association, the KESC had divided Site industrial area in three zones and carrying two hours load shedding in rotation.
