The Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has proposed a joint currency in Muslim Countries namely 'Golden Dinar' to enhance the co-operation between the Muslim world. "It is under consideration, and the Chamber will take all Muslim countries into confidence regarding announcement of the joint currency", said ICCI Secretary-General Aqeel A. Al-Jassim, while talking to Jalil Malik, senior vice president, Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) here on Thursday.
Jassim visited the RCCI office and met RCCI senior executives and business leaders of Rawalpindi.
Terming the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) imperative for the socio-economic development of a country, Aqeel A Al-Jassim said that Muslim countries should take measures to promote SMEs in order to quell the gene of unemployment and poverty.
"SMEs would provide financial stability to these countries besides, helping in attaining the desired goals in other sectors of life", Jassim said, adding: "For taking appropriate steps for the promotion of SMEs in Muslim world the ICCI has constituted a special task force which would meet in Myanmar in January next", he told the RCCI leaders.
Briefing about the aims and objectives of the ICCI, he said the main aim of the formation of this Chamber was to enhance the trade and economic co-operation between Muslim countries, adding: "We are busy in attaining the set objectives of co-operation within the member countries, enhancing the investment and holding joint ventures in member countries."
The ICCI leader said the Chamber is also taking measures to develop the SMEs in member countries in order to bring economic stability and fight the unemployment and poverty in these countries.
Talking on future programmes of the Chamber, Jassim said that it is working to educate the industrialists and exporters of the member countries, adding the Chamber is holding a private sector meeting in February, while first 'business women conference' would be held in March.
He said the ICCI in league with the Dewan Group is also organising an international Islamic cultural conference in March.
He said for the promotion of the tourism in member states, the ICCI is holding first private sector forum regarding tourism in April. He assured the leaders of the RCCI that ICCI would invite the RCCI members in its ventures.
Lauding the efforts of the ICCI for bringing Muslim countries close culturally and economically, RCCI Senior Vice-President Jalil Malik said that these efforts would help in addressing various problems the Muslim world is facing.
He said that poverty and unemployment is a concern for entire world, and the promotion of SMEs is best way to address these problems.
Malik lauded the special attention of the ICCI being given to promotion of SMEs, besides, leading towards economic stability.
