A retired Chief Warrant Officer of Pakistan Air Force and an activist of Jamaat Islami, Chaudhry Muhammad Asghar (70) was shot dead on Wednesday in Chak No 190/WB (Mailsi) by two attackers of 25 to 30 year age. However his sons Professor Javed Asghar and Khalid Mehmood Asghar, an instructor in Government Technology College Multan escaped unhurt.
"It would be premature to say anything about this mishap, it might be a terrorist activity or an outcome of enmity or dacoity. However, we are investigating the case from all aspects. It is true that they changed their dress and threw the weapons in the way," DSP Mailsi Amir Taimoore told newsmen.
Professor Javed Asghar elder son of Chaudhry Muhammad Asghar insisted that it is a terrorist activity because we have no enmity in the area nor the attackers looted anything. He said that two attackers one of them was bearded asked the residence of Professor Javed Asghar of Government College Jehanian from a minor boy.
Then they knocked the door. As his father opened the door to know about the visitors, they started firing resultantly he died on the spot. "Two unidentified attackers snatched a motor cycle from a young landlord Ziaullah Gujjar in Chak No 194/WB (Mitro) at gun point. When he resisted they shot him dead at 9:30 am on Wednesday.
Later they reached at Chak No 190/WB (Garha Morr) in Mailsi and they inquired about the residence of Professor Javed Asghar then they shot dead his father Chaudhry Muhammad Asghar (70)," DPO Vehari Mukhtar Iqbal Tikka said.
He said," we believe that it is an outcome of old enmity, but deceased family insisted on terrorist activity however we are investigating the case from all aspects."
Funeral prayer was offered on Thursday which was largely attended by the political workers, local leaders of Jamaat Islami, MMA, educationists, lawyers and elite of the area.
