The Sindh Chief Secretary Muhammad Aslam Sanjrani presided over a high-level meeting to review ongoing campaign by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) against illegal hydrants and water connections, and adopting legal course in this regard.
The meeting was also attended by Additional Chief Secretary Local Government Muhammad Saleem Khan, DCO Karachi Fazalur Rehman, Managing Director KWSB Brigadier Iftikhar Haider, representatives of Corps Headquarters and Pakistan Rangers Sindh, Additional Secretary Implementation and Co-ordination Iqbal Dewan, Deputy MD KWSB Israr Hussain Zaidi and concerned TMOs. DIG Operations Mushtaq Shah represented the PPO (IG) Sindh.
The meeting was informed the campaign against illegal hydrants and water connections was launched on November 24, 2004 and would continue till February 26, 2005.
It was further informed that before launch of the drive, residents of Baldia Town, Lyari, Gulistan-e-Johar, Manzoor Colony and Gulshan-e-Iqbal were facing difficulties in receiving tap water.
The situation was so worse Baldia Town was getting water supply after every seven days. But after launching of the drive 400-MGD water is saved.
It was decided in the meeting to register FIR against those responsible for illegal connections and to ensure taking action against those elements of KWSB who are also involved in providing illegal connections.
It was also decided to disconnect the power supply of illegal water hydrants and get the lease of these illegal hydrants land cancelled for violating rules and regulations.
It was also decided that for the prevention of encroachments and all other illegal steps, a cell should be established at the office of Secretary LG and all TMO should submit performance report on weekly basis. Action in the light of these reports routed through DCO should be ensured.
The CS urged the TMOs to work with dedication for the removal of encroachments, garbage and solid waste and if they face any problem they should submit proposals for redressal.
