Heavy snowfall in Northern Areas

Heavy snowfall coupled with light rain in the upper Hunza valley has blocked Khunjerab Pass on the Pakistan-China border, preventing trade convoys from China to reach Pakistani border town of Sust. According to a private TV, official sources said most of the Northern Areas received heavy snow on Tuesday night and the mercury fell below the freezing point in Astor, Skardu, Hunza, Phander, Gupis, Yasin and Babusar areas.
Heavy snowfall has closed roads leading to these areas affecting supplies of food commodities and essential items to these areas.
