Ministry of Women Development will train district level officers and selected members of NGOs for establishing linkages to create awareness about micro-finance schemes, which will focus on rural women at district level. Joint Secretary, Ministry of women development, Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan stated that wile addressing a workshop on "Extension to Micro-Credit for Rural Women" here on Thursday.
The workshop was attended by 45 district officers and representatives of different NGOs.
The participants of the workshop will design community based micro-credit program for rural women.
He said that ministry is aware of the fact that rural women have no idea about micro-finance schemes and are reluctant to get small loans from banks. But it is the responsibility of government to create awareness in rural areas as micro finance schemes can play a major role for eradication of poverty.
He said that main objective of training is to create awareness about Micro-finance schemes in the rural areas for empowerment of rural women.
Rural women are poorer than urban, so they need more micro finance schemes for improvement in their livelihood Ishtiaq added.
He said that through micro-credit schemes women can become active member of their family and can participate in economic development, only if they are aware abut the schemes which is designed to provide benefit to them.
He said that out reach is 5 percent with 0.45 million active borrowers and target is 34 percent population, which is living below poverty line for their active participation in economic development.
He said that success rate of micro-credit, in Pakistan, is 99.8 percent, and 9 percent increase in income is recorded and 60 percent women are empowered due to impact of small loans.
