The Sri Lankan Consulate General has appealed to the Travel Agents Association of Pakistan (Taap) for donating urgently required supplies. Consul General Manel de Silva, in a letter to the Taap, has drawn its attention towards the "worst disaster" that has struck Sri Lanka in recent history and "the destruction caused to valuable lives and property is of a hitherto unknown magnitude."
The need was to obtain medical equipment, water purifying tablets, tents, etc, which were urgently required for thousands of affected persons, he said, adding baby bottles and other requirements were also needed.
The Consulate General will officially acknowledge all cash and other donations and will airlift the items in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Airlines in Pakistan.
