New York copper futures turned modestly higher after the improved US labour market reading, and traders said they expected prices to remain supported in a tight range for the few hours left in 2004. The COMEX copper market trading session ends early at 1205 pm EST on Thursday and will remain closed on Friday for the New Year's Day holiday.
At the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, March delivery copper was up 0.15 cent at $1.4465 a lb, and traded between $1.44 and $1.45. Spot January copper lost 0.45 cent at $1.4780 a lb., and only a few of the rest traded even to down 0.55.
