Wheat futures at the Chicago Board of Trade were higher at mid-morning on Thursday as funds covered short positions ahead of a holiday weekend, traders said. At 10:30 am CST (1630 GMT), CBOT wheat was up 1 to 3 cents per bushel, with March up 1 cent at $3.04-1/2. O'Connor and Co bought 300 March, while Prudential and Tenco each bought 100 March, traders said. Fimat Futures bought and sold 200 March.
Volume was thin. The CBOT was scheduled to close early at noon CST (1800 GMT) on Thursday and remain closed on Friday in observance of New Year's Day.
