A total number of 63,135 cases of dacoities, robberies and theft have been registered by the police in all the four provinces and the Federal capital during 2004. Besides, the stolen goods worth Rs 4.17 billion have been recovered. According to a report, the country has witnessed increase in incidents of thefts, car-lifting, dacoities and robberies.
The report stated that in more than 63,000 incidents of dacoities, robberies and theft, the criminals have looted goods, including jewellery, electronic and electric appliances, vehicles and other commodities, worth Rs 4.1,602 billion.
The police have recovered the commodities worth only Rs 770 million. The incidents of dacoities, car-lifting, robberies and theft have witnessed a 35 percent increase as against the incidents of the previous year. The report gave a comparison of the crimes in the previous two years (2003 and 2004), are showing an upward trend.
The report further said that the number of highway dacoities, registered in 2003, was 61, while in 2004 it rose to 98. Bank dacoities in 2003 were 38, while in 2004, it was 77. The number of dacoities on patrol pumps was three in 2003, while it was six in 2004.
The registered number of dacoities in houses and shops was 1,607 in 2003, while the number in 2004 was 1861.
The highway robberies have also increase in 2004, which rose to 163 as against 164 in 2003.
Bank robberies in 2003 were 370 and in 2004 it were 435. Robberies at patrol pumps registered in 2003 were 21, while it was 23 in 2004.
Other robberies registered in 2003 were 8,268 and in 2004 the number rose to 9,401. The cases of cheating and fraud registered in 2003 were 11,275 while it rose to 11,923 in 2004.
In 2003, the number of registered theft cases was 22,496, while it was 26,539 in 2004.
The report stated that the rise in car theft incidents was also alarming as 10,700 cases were registered in 2003, but in 2004 it rose to 12,629.
Giving details of the arms recovery campaign of the government, the report stated that in 2004, a record arms and ammunition were recovered by the police in the Federal capital and all the four provinces. Police have registered 67,190 cases of illegal arms during this year.
