District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani has stressed the need for a broader vision among business community of Rawalpindi region, and said that efforts, energies and resources should be pooled for holding international industrial exhibitions in this area on regular basis. "We must look towards the requirements of the present era and future as well.
"We must take it as a challenge to work for industrialisation of the area and transfer the fruits of industrialisation to common people", Tariq Kiani said while inaugurating the sixth Pakistan industrial exhibition of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) here on Friday evening.
A colourful function to open the fair was organised by the RCCI, which was presided over by RCCI President Najam Rehan.
Tariq Kiani said the government was looking forward to establish an exhibition center of international standard where the industrialist, exporters and businessman would get access to the international market.
He said the government was well aware of its responsibilities regarding the socio-economic development of the region. Various development projects had been completed while many others, including gigantic ring road project was about to be launched, he added.
He said that the ring road project, on completion, would change the look of this area both economically and socially.
Terming the industrial exhibitions a source of encouragement for the new entrepreneurs, Kiani said that this should be given a new and international look.
"Industrialisation is imperative not only for economic stability and growth, but also to fight unemployment and poverty", he added.
This exhibition would prove a real inspiration and source of encouragement for the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of this region, Kiani said, adding that this was an easy way to introduce their products to general public to get a good market space.
Stressing the need for marketing and producing better quality products, he said this would help the industrialists and traders to earn a good market space and gain the confidence of the customers.
"I am sure that RCCI would convince the businessmen about the values of better quality and cost effective products", he added.
He lauded the role of the RCCI in economic growth of the country, and said that the exhibition had become an annual feature and people were now eagerly waiting for the RCCI exhibition.
He assured the RCCI the government's full support in their endeavours for nation building.
Speaking next, MNA Zamrud Khan stressed the need for a permanent exhibition center in Rawalpindi, saying that it was necessary for industrialisation and economic growth of the area.
"It will not only provide healthy entertainment to the masses, but will also help us address the problems of unemployment and poverty", he added.
He lauded the role of the RCCI in socio-economic development of the region, and said that people of this area would support every positive effort of the chamber.
He called upon the RCCI leadership to make sure the availability of essential commodities on cheaper rates in the exhibitions.
Speaking on the occasion, RCCI President Najam Rehan said: "We want to use all out efforts to make this region an export zone, which would play effective role in increasing the exports of the country".
Referring to the geographic situation and close link of Rawalpindi with the Central Asian Republics, Afghanistan and China, he said the exporters and industrialists of the Rawalpindi region, should make all possible efforts to explore these markets for their products.
Najam Rehan expressed satisfaction over successful holding of the exhibition, and said that like past traditions, this exhibition would prove a success and prove a moral booster for the owners of SMEs.
The function, followed by fireworks show and musical gala, was attended and attended by Pakistan Peoples Party (Patriot) member, National Assembly Zamrud Khan, Chinese cultural delegation and a large number of business leaders, high officials and citizens, besides senior executives and former presidents of the chamber.
