The lawyers' fraternity across the country would observe today (Monday) 'Black Day' to protest against President Musharraf's decision to hold both the offices of the President and the Army Chief. The call of observing January 10, as black day was given by the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), an apex body of lawyers.
In its call to all bar councils and bar associations across the country, the Vice-Chairman PBC, Rasheed A Rizvi has asked the legal fraternity to convene and hold protest meetings at their bars premises' to condemn Musharraf's decision of holding dual offices.
The different bar associations across the country will hoist black flags on their bar buildings.
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) will also observe the black day and hoist black flag on the bar building. The lawyers will also wear black bands on their arms to mark their protest against Musharraf's decision of holding the dual offices unconstitutionally, spokesman SCBA said.
Meanwhile, in a conversation with newsmen on Sunday, Rasheed A Rizvi was confident that in line with the past traditions of the Bar for upholding the rule of law and sanctity of the Constitution, the lawyers fraternity will make it possible to observe the black day.
He said lawyers' fraternity has always been striving for the supremacy of the Constitution, rule of law, independence of judiciary and establishment of true parliamentary democracy in the country.
