Member of Central Board of Revenue (CBR) for Exports Zafar Majeed on Saturday inaugurated the newly constructed building of Multan dry port near Shershah, some 16 kilometre west of Multan. He said that Multan is a very important city of Pakistan because this zone produces more than 80 percent of cotton, which contributes key role in GDP growth.
With the grace of Almighty God we have produced about 14 million bales of cotton which are sufficient to meet the requirement of local textile industry.
He said that Pakistan would surely meet its exports targets very easily because we had achieved more 50 percent of the target in six months. He said that dry ports were playing a significant role in boosting up the exports and Multan Dry port also played an important role in attracting the exporters as well as importers.
Khawaja Muhammad Younas acting Chairman of Multan Dry Port trust said that this project was sanctioned in 1994 while this port was formally inaugurated on September 21,1995 by the then Minister of state for Finance Makhdoom Shahabuddin.
