The Lahore High Court (LHC) extended the interim bail of DIG Gujranwala Malik Iqbal, District Police Officer (DPO) Sialkot, and other officials involved in killings of four judges in Sialkot jail. The court adjourned the proceedings till next date of hearing, as their counsel did not appear before the court.
It may be mentioned that the jail inmates had kept hostage four judges in Sialkot Jail during their visit. Three judges died on the spot, while one judge succumbed to his injuries after some days. These judges were killed due to negligence of the jail superintendent and police officials.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) has confirmed bail of one Ali Raza Kazmi involved in obtaining excessive amount from his account from Prime Commercial Bank Township Branch.
The applicant counsel Taffazul H. Rizvi contended that the bank's role is questionable, as the real accused is one Inam-ul-Haq who was granted bail by the special court (offences in banks) with the condition that he will deposit money in instalments. However, Inam failed to do so but the bank did not approach the special court for cancellation of his bail. The court, after hearing the applicant counsel at length, confirmed his interim bail.
It may be mentioned that vice-president of the bank had got registered a case in FIA against the applicant. The allegation against him is that he was operating a bank account with the Gulberg branch of the Prime Commercial Bank. Due to a technical fault of online banking system, an excessive amount of Rs 800,000 was paid to him from Township branch over and above his actual balance.
PBC body enrols lawyers: The enrolment committee of Pakistan Bar Council enrolled four lawyers for the Supreme Court. The committee headed by Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry of Supreme Court, enrolled Imtiaz Ahmed Kaifi, Liaqat Ali Butt, Mian Muhammad Jahangir and Fakhr-un-Nisa Khokhar. The committee deferred the case of 10 more applicants.
LCBA member sends notice to PM: A member of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has sent a notice to Prime Minister of Pakistan for not replying to the letter of a senior lawyer Muhammad Ismail Malik.
The LHCBA member M.D. Tahir in his notice to Prime Minister contended that Ismail Malik had submitted some suggestions for bringing improvement in judiciary, but unfortunately the Prime Minister did not bother to reply the letter. He contended that it was duty of Prime Minister of Pakistan to give reply of important matters. He, therefore, asked the Prime Minister to respond to his client Muhammad Ismail within fortnight, otherwise he will approach the court of law.
SJC seminar tomorrow: Safe Judiciary Committee (SJC) is holding a seminar in Karachi Hall of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) on Wednesday (January 12). Former chief justice Pakistan Sajjad Ali Shah will be the chief guest while former governor Punjab Mian Muhammad Azhar, Secretary General ANP Ehsan Wyne, Convener SJC Abdul Rashid Qureshi, President Lahore High Court Bar Association Ahmed Awais and others will address the seminar.
