The Speaker, provincial ministers and members of the NWFP Assembly on Monday decided to donate the salary of January for the tsunami victims as the House met here with speaker Bakht Jehan Khan in the chair. The house offered Fateha for the Muslims and observed silence for the non-Muslims, killed in the world's worst ever tragedy. Speaker Bakht Jehan Khan in his short remarks, after the House decided to donate one-month salary, said: "I also announced to give my salary of January 2005 for the victims of the tsunami."
Opposition leader Shahzada Gustasip Khan brought the issue of tsunami tragedy in the House through a motion, which was supported by the entire House.
Lauding the timely steps taken by the Pakistan government for the early rehabilitation of the people of the affected countries, Provincial Minister for Industries and Labour Malik Zafar Azam said the government took initiative in dispatching relief goods to the tsunami hit countries.
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Parliamentary leader Anwar Kamal Khan Marwat, PML Parliamentary leader Mushtaq Ghani, PPP Parliamentary leader Murid Kaazim, Maulana Mujahid of MMA and Israrullah Khan Gandapur drew the attention of the house towards damages caused by the recent rains and floods in their respective districts. They said the affected areas needed due attention of the government.
Provincial Minister for Local Government Sardar Idrees said that DCOs, DROs and concerned TMOs had been directed to prepare detailed reports about the damages inflicted due to rains in their areas of jurisdiction.
He assured the House that the NWFP government within its available resources would provide all possible help and financial assistance to the people whose property had been affected during natural calamity.
About the killing of six persons due to mud sliding in Nawan Shehr due to torrential rains in Abbotabad district, the Minister said the Chief Minister took prompt action over the tragic incident and announced Rs 0.1 million for each victim of the tragedy.

He said a team of technical experts had been directed to suggest alternate measures for saving the area from being drowning, adding people of the area would be rehabilitated by giving them alternate places for construction of houses.
Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Alhaj Mohammad Ayaz Khan informed the House that Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) General Manager would be approached to apprise him about the complaint of the people concerning screening of obscene programmes by some cable operators in Mardan District.
