Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) Secretary General Senator Mushahid Hussain has said the uniform is not a hindrance in way of democracy rather the current situation of the country demands that President should remain in uniform. Uniform had been a political factor since 1954 when General Ayub Khan, serving as Commander-in-Chief, became Defence Minister in Ghulam Mohammad's cabinet, Mushahid told a private television network.
He said peaceful solution of Kashmir issue with India and elimination of extremism from the society would not be possible without army role.
To a question, he said if we take more people with us it would strengthen our country and our stance as well. He said, polarisation and confrontation would have negative results, adding we should not repeat the mistakes of past.
Mushahid said Pakistan was an important country, adding it would have to play more roles in the world politics in the coming eight to 10 years.
To another question, he said the government was trying to build consensus on Kalabagh Dam issue, adding, " I think Kalabagh Dam and Gwadar port were in the interest of the country."
Responding yet to another question, Mushahid said no cabinet member including himself was taken into confidence when former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif decided to sack the then Chief of Army Staff. "I think someone had misled Nawaz Sharif and it was a mistake on his part," he added.
