Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) has earned highest revenue of Rs 7 billion during the last financial year, Executive Director (Commercial) PNSC Captain Aftab Siddique said on Tuesday. Talking to PTV he said, PNSC has now been transformed into a profit-earning entity. It has initiated payment of dividends to its shareholders after 20 years.
With 14 vessels the PNSC has total weight carrying capacity of 570,000 tonnes. The capacity was much below in 1979 with even 41 vessels.
Currently total sea borne trade volume of Pakistan is about 38 million tonnes. It is expected that the volume will jump to 45 million during the next year. PNSC plans to purchase more vessels to meet the requirements of country's future trade.
Currently from eight to nine million tonnes trade needs of country were being met by the Corporation. About 60 to 65 percent crude oil import requirements were being met by it, he said.
PNSC immediately intends to induct another tanker in its fleet to fulfil bulk requirements of the Pakistan Steel. It also plans to meet the needs and oil import requirements of regional countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh in future.
PNSC was playing a significant role in enhancing traditional exports like Rice etc.
Recently purchased (vessel) Lalazar has the capacity to carry 113 thousand tonnes dead weight.
