The revised agency commission on the passenger sales of the British Airways will take effect from February 1, the Airline's regional office has reminded the travel agents in its region. In individual letters delivered to the travel agents here on Monday and Tuesday, Paul Dhami, the country commercial manager, said that a notice given under the Agency Agreement in this context will expire at the end of the current month and from February 1 the carrier will pay 7 per cent commission instead of nine on passenger sales.
The letter reminded the agents that it had already complied with clause 9 of the Agency Agreement that provides for a 90-day notice for a "change in the level of remuneration" was served on all agencies on November 1 last year.
The travel agents had reacted strongly to the suggestion when it was notified by the British flag carrier two months ago. The IATA-approved agents returned their ticket stock to the airlines, while the others hoisted large banners announcing a boycott of the BA sales.
The Airlines and the Travel Agents' Association of Pakistan (TAAP) had a few meetings over the last two months to resolve the tiff but without any success.
The TAAP had a meeting here on Monday to consider the situation but adjourned inconclusively and the new move by the Airlines is expected to give more urgency and another larger meeting may be convened later this week or early next to finalise future course of action.
