Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has said the economic improvement policies of the government have given confidence to foreign investors willing to invest in Pakistan. He stated this while talking to UK Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Commonwealth Affairs Douglas Alexander, who along with UK Deputy High Commissioner Hamish Daniel, called on him at the Governor's House here on Tuesday.
The governor said the reforms programme of President General Pervez Musharraf was now coming up and progressing fast, adding it is because of economic policies that foreign and domestic investments have gone up, and many investors doubtful of Pakistan's future are now showing interest in its industrial activities.
He said Pakistan wanted cordial relations with its neighbours and working on developing trade ties with them.
Dr Ibad said Karachi is the hub of industrial and commerce activities in the region, and with the passage of time, it has gained importance as a lucrative investment site.
He informed them that water, power generation, solid waste management, health and education as some of the areas where investment could be made, saying there is potential in these areas, and many more areas for which government has provided adequate infrastructure.
He briefed Alexander on the coastal belt development project and textile city projects that would come up soon.
He said the government has shunned its policy of regulation, and moved towards the policy of facilitation to accommodate investors on priority basis.
Alexander praised the policies of President Musharraf, and expressed his confidence in his policies.
He expressed his satisfaction over the measures the two countries have been taking to strengthen their commerce and trade relations.
