I am pleased to welcome all the foreign and local guests to Karachi, on the occasion of "e-banking - Challenges Ahead" international conference and exhibition on behalf of the Ministry of IT, Government of Sindh.
Karachi is the financial hub of the country. It has the Head Offices of all the major banks. Major banking operations and almost all central electronic banking business is being done at Karachi. As an established international financial center, Karachi provides the heart beat of national economy.
Events like the present one help establish Karachi as an international venue where experts from abroad can share their knowledge with the Pakistani market that can provide the impetus to benefit the common man, including people living in far flung areas of rural Sindh.
Electronics has changed the life style of mankind. Over the last few decades electronic gadgets from radio to television to computer to mobile phone have completely reshaped a common man's life. Banking is an established fact of human life and a necessity of business.
Electronic banking has enhanced the power of traditional banking to a level where complete remote banking is possible in modern western world.
In Pakistan, banks have realised the power of electronics and are offering innovative services to the customers. Products like Credit and Debit cards, which are based on electronic infrastructure, are a common thing now. E-banking has empowered banks to reach a wider range of society through easy-to-access means such as Call Center.
All such services have provided employment opportunities to an educated population, especially in Call Center area which encourages both genders to serve through this remote banking facility. With the increase in Customer base, soundness and profitability of financial institution has also increased.
I hope events like these will bring a new lease of life to the e-banking sector of the country. Major stakeholders are gathering today at a common place, enabling all to work collectively for the betterment of this vital area of the economy. I congratulate the organisers on organising such a prestigious event for third successive year and wish every success for such events in future.
