ABOUT POWERWARE: A globally recognised industry leader for more than 40 years, Powerware designs and manufactures a full line of Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS), DC power systems, power management software/connectivity products.
Powerware products are typically used in networking, PC, financial, medical, industrial, voice and data communications, military and aerospace applications - wherever continuous power is essential to daily operations.
Powerware has long been a technological leader, with more than 65 registered patents in the U.S. alone, and a long-term performance record that dates back to the early 1960s (to protecting the first data centers).
Since then, Powerware innovations have closely paralleled the continuing evolution of information technology, anticipating major trends such as the shift to networking, technology convergence and web-based computing.
The company was the first to bring mission-critical power protection from the data center to the desktop and the first to introduce network power management. Powerware is also the market share leader in supplying UPS products and services for resale to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
These OEMs, which include many of the largest computer and networking companies in the world, frequently list Powerware products as the default UPS on their solution configurations.
COMPANY HISTORY: Powerware Corporation replaced the name Exide Electronics in April 1999, representing a move to more clearly identify its products and role in the technology industry. Powerware is one of three basic, essential tools that make up the information technology system...Hardware, Software and Powerware.
Powerware was founded in 1962 and known at that time as Exide Electronics, a division of the Electric Storage Battery Company. In 1980, the company became a separate organisation under Inco Electro Energy.
Purchased by private investors in 1982, Exide Electronics became a publicly held company in December, 1989. The company completed several acquisitions between 1992 and 1996, including MPL, a European-based UPS sales and service company, and DataTrax, a leading software developer.
Other major acquisitions included UPS manufacturers International Power Machines, Lectro and Deltec Power Systems (a division of Fiskars). In 1997, Exide Electronics was acquired by BTR plc, a British engineering and consulting conglomerate, which subsequently merged with Siebe Controls to become a joint company called Invensys plc.
In June 2004, Powerware was acquired from Invensys plc by Eaton Corporation, a diversified multi billion dollar industrial equipment manufacturer, based out of Ohio, USA.
Powerware is now a part of Eaton Group's newly created Power Quality Solutions division in its Electrical Business Group. The Eaton Electrical group also owns major well-known brands such as Westinghouse, Cutler-Hammer, MEM, Bill and Holec.
STRATEGY AND ORGANIZATION: Approximately 3,250 associates are directly employed by Powerware world-wide. Several hundred independent sales organisations distribute the company's products in more than 100 countries. Since developing its 'closer to the customer' strategy, the company has aligned most of its resources according to target geographic markets.
Marketing, sales, product development, manufacturing, service, and financial administration are among those functions being deployed across three primary regions: the Americas; Europe, Middle East and Africa; and Asia Pacific (including Australia and New Zealand).

PRODUCT SCOPE: With one of the most comprehensive product offerings available on the market today, Powerware is an industry leader and globally recognised provider of innovative, effective power quality solutions. The company offers a full range of UPSs ranging in size from 300 volt amperes (VA) for personal computers to greater than 1,000 kilovolt amperes (kVA) for mission-critical applications including data centers, Internet service providers, and server farms.
Network-connectivity devices, extended battery cabinets, power distribution modules and other power-related devices further enhance Powerware UPS hardware offerings.
The Powerware product portfolio also includes a full line of Intergy DC Power Systems ranging in size from mini systems for roadside cabinets or customer premises equipment to large systems for major switching installations. Power management software and IT infrastructure management software complete the company's product line.
Basic power management software provides industry-standard monitoring, alarm and shutdown capabilities. More advanced software packages offer expansive data archiving, trending and regression analysis tools with predictive capabilities.
