Indonesian share prices closed 0.37 percent lower on Tuesday on continued profit-taking in blue chip stocks, while second-liners attracted some interest, dealers said. They said some foreign investors continued to take profits in three market heavyweights, Telkom, Indosat and Astra International, following hefty gains made last week. The Jakarta Stock Exchange composite index closed down 3.805 points at 1,011.673 on volume of 1.56 billion shares worth 1.71 trillion rupiah (182.8 million dollars).
Gainers led losers 65 to 53, with 75 stocks unchanged.
The rupiah traded at 9,280-9,290 to the dollar, compared to Monday's 9,295-9,300.
"Falls in Telkom, Indosat and Astra International pushed the index lower," Madani Securities analyst Aji Martono said.
He said that some investors had swiched to shares of smaller and more speculative companies as part of rotational trade.
State telecom firm Telkom dropped 100 rupiah at 4,850 rupiah, while long distance operator Indosat lost 200 rupiah at 5,950 rupiah.
Cigarette maker Gudang Garam fell 100 rupiah at 14,050 rupiah, while rival Sampoerna fell 100 rupiah at 6,900 rupiah.
Carmaker Astra International shed 200 at 9,550.
