Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has directed the police chief to control street crimes, and increase mobility and visibility of the police force in the province. He was addressing a meeting of the police officers at the Governor House on Thursday. Ibad asked IGP Sindh Syed Kamal Shah to take notice of the rise in street crimes, gambling dens, prostitution houses and drugs outlets in Karachi and other parts of the province.
The Governor asked the police chief to collect data on those and other crimes, and to identify their locations before initiating actions against them, adding the care should be taken so that innocent people did not fall victim of the police excesses.
He said actions against criminals were not restricted to once-a-week drive against crime, but it was a continuous exercise that should be carried out frequently.
Ibad said kidnapping for ransom in the interior of Sindh was increasing and seemed out of control, adding there should be proper orientation of the police force in that respect.
The Governor said the police should collect information about their protectors and initiate action against them, irrespective of their position and status in the area of their influence. Unless those big fishes were not caught, there would be no let up in kidnapping for ransom incidents, he added.
During the meeting, Asiya case was also came up for discussion and it was decided that the police would pursue the case with care and ensure justice to the victim.
The governor also reviewed security arrangements the police had planned to implement during Eid days in Karachi and other cities of the province.
There would be strict check on the movement of people and all places where faithful would offer Eid prayers would be properly protected, he directed them.
The police would depute more mobile teams in sensitive areas and keep an eye on anti-social elements.
In the meantime, the governor called upon the Ulema of all school of thoughts to preach peace and brotherhood during those days. He also called upon the people to co-operate with the administration in the maintenance of peace and tranquillity in the province.
Those who attended the meeting included Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui, IGP Sindh Syed Kamal Shah and other concerned officers.
