Need for co-operation with Iranian universities stressed

Punjab University's Mass Communication Department arranged a special lecture of vice-chancellor Arshad Mahmood on PU delegation's visit to Islamic Republic of Iran, where academic agreements between PU and the Iranian universities were signed. Iranian Cultural Centre Director General, Mohammad Raza Ameeni was the chief guest on the occasion. A large number of teachers and students were also present.
Arshad Mahmood said that their visit to Iran was a unique and unforgettable experience, as they had learned a lot from this visit. He hoped that this visit would go a long way in further strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
During our visit to Mashad's Firdosi University, we were greatly impressed by the standard and quality of education being imparted at Plant Pathology, Virology and Hybrid Seed Technology departments of the university. We would send our senior teachers to the Firdosi University to share expertise of the Iranian scientists, he said.
"We signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Central Library of Aastan-e-Qudsia for preservation of manuscripts at the University of the Punjab. The PU signed another MoU with Tehran University's Faculty of Foreign Languages and Teacher Training University, to share research and exchange students and teachers delegations for improving the educational standards of the universities of both countries", he said.
Arshad described his meeting with the Ministry of Science Research and Technology's Deputy Minister Dr Mustafa Kariman Iqbal in Tehran, Foreign Ministry's Deputy Minister Research Dr Ali Raza Muayary and Academics Ministry's Deputy Minister Research Dr Mustafa Kariman Iqbal as 'inspiring'. He said that the PU has also signed another MoU with Tehran University's Faculty of Fine Arts and Faculty of Literature and Humanities and visit to Allama Tabatabai University was a great experience for us.
Iranian Cultural Centre Director General Mohammad Ameeni said that Iranian universities have made great progress in science and technology, human resources and agricultural research.
Mass Communication Department Professor Dr Mughees-ud-Din Sheikh said that we should enhance our contacts with Central Asian and Middle East countries instead of South Asia, as our forefathers belong to Central region. He said the department would launch certificate and diploma courses in Persian and Arabic languages to train students to work as media professional and cultural attaché.
