The National Assembly standing committee on government assurance has asked the government to amend relevant laws to curb mushroom growth of fake co-operative housing societies. The committee, which met here on Thursday with MNA Haji Khuda Bukhsh Nizamani in the chair, observed that co-operative housing societies were violating land laws, depriving people of their lifelong savings.
The meeting observed that the management of fake co-operative housing societies was committing massive violation of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) land laws.
The CDA and ICT should be more vigilant in monitoring the mushroom growth of such societies and only those societies should be allowed to continue their operations, which fulfilled the prescribed requirements, the committee directed.
It also asked the CDA and the ICT administration to check veracity of the Public Works Department (PWD) housing society.
In response to the observation of the committee, the CDA representative informed the committee that the PWD did not exist in their record.
The committee also asked the ICT administration and the CDA to ensure that no housing society was allowed to advertise before applying for registration with them and without substantiating the ownership of the required land.
The committee directed the CDA to expedite the development of new sectors in Islamabad so that growing requirement of residential areas could be met.
