Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Local Government and Rural Development, Senator Sarwar Khan Kakar has called for broad-based reconciliation and resolution of Balochistan problems through dialogue. In a statement on Sunday, Sarwar Khan Kakar said, extremism is no solution to lingering problems and only mutual understanding and amity can pave way to mitigate hardships of Balochistan people.
Referring to recent occurrences in Sui area, the PML leader said, extremist activities by the miscreants could have bad impact on the ongoing reconciliation process.
"Such an incident should have not happened at this juncture," he said.
Kakar said Balochistan people are patriotic and the government is making every possible effort for their uplift.
He mentioned various development projects like Gwadar port, Mirani dam, Kirthar canal, coastal highway, Sabahzai dam and other development measures like electrification of remote villages as well as providing health and education facilities to Balochistan people.
He said safeguarding masses' interests is responsibility of the government and will fulfil its obligations.
"Writ of the government should prevail to safeguard the innocent civilians and protect the national assets," he added.
Kakar said it is the utmost endeavour of President Pervez Musharraf and PML President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain to resolve the decades old problems of the Balochistan people.
"This is for the first time in country's history that any government is seriously and sincerely engaged in finding out solutions to problems facing the Balochistan people," he added.
He regretted the attempt to harm the national assets like Sui and said, such acts further add to masses' miseries.
The Senator also regretted the happenings with a lady doctor in the area and said, the government is seriously looking into this incident and a judicial commission has been constituted to probe into the matter.
He called upon all the political forces in the country to join hands for nation building and put in efforts to fight out poverty, backwardness, unemployment and other social and economic challenges.
"Masses rights must be held supreme and everybody should work for welfare of the poor people rising above their party and personal interests," he added.
