The Federal Minister for Information, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Tuesday that the government has launched mega projects worth billions of rupees for the development of the country and welfare of the masses. Addressing a rally of Sarhad Transport Workers Confederation here he said that the projects after completion would provide enormous employment opportunities, generate income resources and make the country self sufficient in food sector, promote industries and initiate an era of public welfare and national development.
He said that Gwadar port, Makran coastal highway, Gomal dam, Mirani dam, Mangla raising and other projects would change the fate of the people and image of the country.
He said that in Balochistan alone development projects worth Rs 130 billion were in progress. He said that the cotton crop in country would exceed 14 million bales adding to the economy of the country and welfare of the mostly agrarian society.
Information minister said that those harming the national installations were doing no service to the nation or country. He said that these elements wanted to keep the country backward and people deprived of basic facilities. He said that the damage to the strategic national installations in Sui was a conspiracy against the people and the country.
He said that as a result of this disruptive activity, the country has received great damage and setback. Moreover million of rupees loss was suffered by the Sui Gas Company, industries attached to it and the masses in general. The gas was not being supplied to the industries affecting the country's economy. The household and children were affected.
He said that out of it an impression has been created in the outside world that pipelines and installations were not safe in Pakistan, then how another country could pass pipeline or set industry in the our country.
Sheikh Rashid said that MMA government should serve the masses and work for the welfare of the people of the province instead of blaming other. He said that MMA instead of politics of issues should solve the problems of the people. He said that we all are Muslims and Pakistanis. He said that we should give real picture of Islam to the world. He said that Islam was the religion of peace, tolerance, welfare brotherhood, development and moderation. It condemned extremism and terrorism in all its norms.
The minister paid glowing tributes to President General Pervez Musharraf for his seasoned and statesman leadership. He said that the President has steered the country out of monetary bankruptcy. The country was now self-sufficient and our reserves have crossed the 12 billion dollars mark. Pakistan has come out of the loan burden and did not take the last loan instalment of IMF. Now the fruits of economic stability have started reaching masses.
He said that it was the desire of government to pass the fruit of economic development to the doorstep of common man. He also lauded Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz for his best economic policies.
The minister took oath from the newly elected office bearers of the Sarhad Transport Workers Confederation. He congratulated the elected representatives. Zahir Shah Yousafzai, president of the confederation presented the welcome address. Renowned labour leader Aurangzeb Durrani also spoke on the occasion. The minister was presented the traditional Shawl on the occasion by Sher Ali, general secretary of the confederation.
Earlier, the minister was given standing ovation and warmly received on arrival to address the rally. The minister assured all-out co-operation and facilities to solve the problems of the workers presented in the welcome address.
