Eid-ul-Azha was celebrated amid tight security and in severe cold in southern Punjab on Friday. Punjab Constabulary, Elite Force and police were patrolling in the city while police guards were deployed at places of worship while policemen in plain clothes have been deployed at railway station, bus & wagon stands. "We did not let any banned sectarian or "Jihadi" organisation to collect donations and hides of sacrificial animals in the region. However, some registered religious seminaries and charity organisations collected the donations," District Nazim Multan Pir Riaz Hussain Qureshi said.
"We have taken foolproof security measures in Multan to protect the lives and property of the people. Commandos of police and Elite Force were patrolling in the city while goods and vehicles were being thoroughly checked by the special police teams at cab, bus & van stands and at important squares, Imam Bargahs, mosques etc," said SSP Nizam Shahid Durrani on Friday.
A head constable, Abdul Khaliq, was shot dead and a motorcyclist Akhlaq Ahmed injured when an outlaw opened fire at the police picket in Sahiwal on Thursday night.
Allah Bakhsh (60), a land owner, was murdered in a mosque of Choti Zireen (Dera Ghazi Khan), some 110 kilometre west of Multan, on Thursday night.
