Commerce Minister Hamayun Akhtar has assured the Sialkot-based gloves manufacturers and exporters that the government will allocate a permanent seat for the Pakistan Gloves Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Pgmea) in the Export Development Fund Board (EDFB) for the effective solution of their problems. This was announced by the Commerce Minister, while talking to a delegation of the Pgmea led by its Chairman Sheikh Abdul Waheed Sandal, which called on him at his office in Islamabad.
The minister hailed the Pgmea's effective and positive efforts for successfully running the Cleaner Production Centre (CPC) and Leather Products Development Institute (LPDI) in Sialkot in collaboration with the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and the Government of Norway.
The establishment of CPC and LPDI aimed at developing the pollution-free quality and standard of leather produces, besides, producing the skilled and trained labour force to export-oriented leather and leather goods industry of Sialkot.
The Minister announced full government co-operation to boom up the country's leather industry.
He urged the leather goods manufacturers and exporters to prepare themselves for the global challenges of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and struggle hard with full devotion and dedication to enhance the exports of leather products and strengthen the national money.
