Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh President Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Thursday alleged Sindh government was using all "illegal tactics" to gain success in the forthcoming local bodies (LB) elections, saying the death of a PPP activist in custody in Mirpurkhas was part of that conspiracy. "Sindh government is using cheap tactics to harass PPP leadership and workers in the interior of Sindh and gain success in the forthcoming local bodies polls. Deterioration of law and order in Mirpurkhas is continuity of government's unfair and illegal policy," he told a news conference at Karachi Press Club (KPC).
PPP Member National Assembly (MNA) Nawab Yousuf Talpur, Dr Fahmida Mirza, Aftab Shaaban Merani and PPP Sindh General Secretary Nafees Siddiqui were also present on the occasion.
He charged the death of PPP activist Abubakr Panhwar in police custody and firing on the residences of PPP elected representatives, leaders and workers was part of conspiracy and plan of Sindh government. "It indicates that provincial government is planning to apply all illegal means and tactics to win the forthcoming local bodies elections".
Syed Qaim Ali Shah said his party was justified in blaming Sindh government as neither the FIRs of slain PPP activist, who died in police custody, and firing on the residences of PPP leaders and workers nor setting ablaze the offices of UC Nazims and Peoples Students Federation were registered.
He charged that so far several cases each had been registered against 70 leaders and workers of PPP and police was harassing their relatives while on the other hand, it was reluctant in lodging FIRs on complaints of PPP office-bearers and workers.
"Residence of PPP MNA Qurban Ali Shah was attacked with automatic weapons but police did not take any action despite timely information, he alleged and adding demanded government to take action against the persons involved in illegal acts, besides police officials, for their negligence.
