The Punjab University (PU) has employed 471 teachers during 173 meetings of its selection boards during the last five year from September 1999 to January 2005, while only 65 board meeting were held in the last years from 1990 to 1999. Vice-chancellor, Arshad Mahmood revealed this in a meeting here Monday.
These appointments include 58 professors, 73 associate professors, 102 assistant professors, 191 lecturers, 7 research officers, 6 research associate cum lecturer, 3 editors, two chief librarians, one senior librarian, one librarian, 4 assistant medical officers, 2 hospital pharmacists, one ophthalmologist, one scientific officer, one network administrator, one directress of sports, one maintenance engineer (electrical) and 16 administrative staff members.
Arshad further said the university had adopted a transparent system of selection of teachers. In order to ensure selection of the best available teachers, the university had made an assessment form for the first time in the history of Punjab University.
Giving details of the assessment marks, he said 95 marks were fixed for educational qualifications, and experience for selection of a teacher. The academic qualifications include Matric or O- level, FA. /F.Sc., B.A/B.Sc., M.A/M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D.
The marks for these qualifications are given according to marks' percentage whereas the gold medallists are given 2 additional marks. The interview marks include marks of the subject expert, communication skills, aptitude to job and personality. Minimum 50 percent marks in selection interview and 60 percent aggregate are required for selection of a teacher, he added.
