The NWFP assembly on Thursday passed four identical resolutions with majority vote demanding of the federal government to restore religious column in the national passport. The four identical resolutions were moved by Deputy Speaker, Ikramullah Shahid, Qari Mohammad Abdullah Bangash and two women MPAs Shagufta Naz and Naeema Akhtar. Reading the identical resolutions, Deputy Speaker Ikramullah Shahid said that Pakistan is an ideological state and with Islam as its official religion.
But, federal government had deleted religion column from the passport. He after the deletion of the column, there would be identification of Qadianis, who were declared non-Muslims in 1974 would be able to enter Herman Sharifeen to discrete the holy places of the Muslims.
They said that the decision of the government would enable Qadianis to join hands with Jews and other anti-Islamic forces and hatched conspiracies against Muslim Ummah and Pakistan. They said that the decision of the federal government had hit the feelings of the Muslim Ummah, which intolerable for them.
They said that through this assembly the provincial government has requested to recommend to federal government to restore religion column in national passport with an immediate effect.
The speaker put the resolutions to vote and were passed with majority as both opposition parties including PPP-Parliamentarian, ANP, PPP-Sherpao and PML (Q) opposed the resolutions, which also annoyed Pir Mohammad Khan. He said that these parties have opposed the unanimous decision of the parliament.
Meanwhile, the house okayed two resolutions of the Pir Mohammad Khan and Bashir Ahmad Bilour unanimously. The first resolution was tabled by Pir Mohammad Khan of MMA, which said that NWFP is a poor province and demanded of the federal government to increase its royalty on electricity by three fold and also called for a share of the province in amount collected in the name of surcharge and extra-surcharges.
