The hearing into several hundred appeals against an amendment in the Punjab Property Act changing the system for its pricing each year was carried over because of lack of time for the Supreme Court here on Thursday. The cases were listed before the Second Bench comprising Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Rana Baghwandas and Justice M Javed Buttar. The case was called near about the time of the rising of the Court and the judges ordered that the appeals should be re-listed for March next.
The appellants include the descendent of late Nawab Mamdoot, first Chief Minister of the post-partitioned Punjab, owners of corporate property, banks, farm owners that have now reached the periphery of expanding townships and a large number of urban property owners.
