Salahuddin Haider, Advisor to the Sindh Chief Minister, has emphasised the role played by the periodicals in disseminating awareness and enlightenment in the society and assured that the government of Sindh would put best efforts to address their problems. He was addressing the APNS Periodicals Committee, Sindh Balochistan at its luncheon meeting on Thursday as the chief guest.
Waqar Yousuf Azeemi, Convener, APNS Periodicals Committee, welcomed the chief guest to the luncheon meeting and observed that the provincial government on priority basis was engaged in improving the literacy rate in the province. He said that periodical publications were also contributing towards this end and "their role in imparting education, literature and moral values cannot be ignored."
"The periodicals have a vast and lasting circulation and are read not only across the country but beyond the frontiers," he said, adding, "thus they are very effective media in the country." He regretted that "despite our several representations, the government of Sindh does not yet allocate the due share in government advertising to the periodical publications, which has resulted in financial crunch to several publications."
He, on behalf of the Periodicals Committee, requested the Advisor to the CM to ensure that the periodical publications get their allocated quota of the government advertisements.
The chief guest highlighted the importance of periodical publications as an effective media and stated that the periodicals have a vast readership among the Pakistanis living in every nook and corner of the world. He advised the publishers and editors attending the meeting to be careful in their coverage and should ensure that the news are published with due authentication.
He assured the committee that the Sindh government ads would be distributed judiciously and the periodical publications should get their appropriate share. However, he advised the participants that periodical publications should not depend on government ads only but explore other marketing venues.
Aamir Mehmood, Kazi Asad Abid, Mushtaq Ahmed Qureshi, Fauzia Shaheen, Adnan Malik and Aleem Ahmed took part in the discussions.-PR
