Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on Food and Agriculture Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi has warned the flour mill owners of strict action if they would sell atta above the government's fixed price. He said a vigilance team was also being constituted to check rise in atta prices and take action against flour mills on complaints. which might include sealing of mills He was chairing a meeting of his department officials here on Friday in which he was briefed about the wheat stock position in Sindh.
The Advisor directed the officials to supply wheat flour at ex-mill rate fixed by the government to the retailers. He also asked the district governments to ensure the sale of wheat flour at government fix price.
Murtaza Jatoi said he himself would monitor the whole affair and surprise raid would be conducted on the flour mills against which he would receive a complaint.
He said if the complaint was found correct, the mill would be sealed.
He directed the department officials to mend their direction and particularly cautioned the storekeepers to remain vigilant. He said action would be taken against them if wheat in the godowns were found embezzled.
The meeting was informed that the government had fixed ex-mill government price of atta at Rs 12.50 per kilogram and the flour mills had to sell atta to the retailers at the same price.
It was stated that Sindh had sufficient wheat stocks and there was no shortage anywhere.
Murtaza Jatoi said that he would not tolerate any mixing in atta, and directed the officials that its quality should be kept under watch with action against adulterators.
He said it was the government's responsibility to ensure supply of cheaper atta to people and those impeding the action would be dealt with an iron hand.
