The third round of voting in two sensitive districts of occupied Kashmir ends peacefully on Sunday amid tight security to prevent attacks by freedom fighters, officials said. On Sunday two districts in southern occupied Kashmir, Anantnag and Pulwama, voted to elect municipal councillors.
"The voting has ended and there has not been a single incidence of violence," an election official in occupied Srinagar told AFP.
He said the turnout was more than 40 percent according to preliminary figures at the end of the six hours of voting. Voting picked up in the afternoon after a slow start.
Occupation troops had positioned themselves around all the voting stations. They frisked people moving in the streets and even those who entered the election booths, witnesses said.
"Tight security has ensured peaceful voting," police officer Javed Ahmed said in occupied Srinagar.
No attacks have been staged on the voting days in the elections, which are being held in several stages across the occupied Kashmir.
