The resource team of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), led by the member of British Parliament, Cherlyl Gillan called on Chairman Senate, Muhammadmian Soomro, here on Wednesday. The matters pertaining to the promotion of the parliamentary co-operation between Pakistani Parliament and Commonwealth Association were discussed. The team is currently on a visit to Pakistan to attend a three-day Post-Election Seminar organised by the Senate of Pakistan in collaboration with the CPA in Islamabad from February 7.
The Member of British Parliament briefed Soomro about the objectives of the ongoing seminar and expressed pleasure in the active participation of women parliamentarians in the deliberations of the seminar.
She appreciated Pakistan's support for hosting the seminar. The members of the visiting CPA team also apprised Senate chairman about the procedures being adopted by the Parliaments of their respective countries.
Soomro on the occasion said that such kind of seminar would promote interaction and help the parliamentarians to learn parliamentary procedures for effective participation in the House deliberations.
He further stated that women parliamentarians were participating actively in the parliamentary proceedings.
The CPA resource team consists of Dr Jayalath Jayawardene, MP of Sri Lanka, Nial Johnston, Director of Development & Planning, CPA, Shri G C Malhotra, Secretary General Lok Sabha, India, Henry Valentino, Senior Media Advisor with IFES and Risck Stapenhurst.
Later, the Chairman Senate hosted dinner for the visiting Commonwealth Parliamentary Association resource team. It was also attended by various Federal Ministers and Senators.
