The Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal) has decided to bring 34 branded pesticides on the generic list after expiry of their patent rights. A notification issued by the Federal Food Agriculture and Livestock Minister Sikandar Hayat Bosan said that this was a major decision, which would allow pesticides to be imported by the registered pesticides importers without any discrimination. The move would help in reducing the pesticides prices to affordable level for the benefits of the growers, and encourage rational use of pesticides in the country.
It may be mentioned that at present pesticides worth Rs 10 billion is being imported annually.
The 34 pesticides include, Chlorfenvinphos, Cyanofenphos, Quinaphos, Etrimphos, Fluvalinate, Fluomenturon, Deltamethrin, Tridiazuron and 24 other pesticides.
