Terming the productivity as baseline for the economy of a country, President Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) Najam Rehan has said that government should put its emphasis on the productivity in industrial as well as agriculture sector for further enhancement in the economic stability. He was addressing a national training workshop held in RCCI auditorium under the aegis of National Productivity Organisation (NPO).
The workshop was attended by a large number of members of RCCI, businessmen of the Rawalpindi region, students, auditors, managers of different organisations and other professionals.
The main stress of the training workshop was on enhancement of the productivity in industrial and agriculture sector.
Addressing the participants of the workshop, RCCI President, Najam Rehan said that industrial sector of Pakistan is facing various challenges in international market, particularly after enactment of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). "WTO regime has changed the priorities and preferences of the nations and every country is making efforts to get a good space in international market", he added.
He said that it is the need of hour that efforts should be made to make Pakistani products cost effective and government should give incentives to industrial sector. This, he said would help in increasing the productivity and earn a good market space for our products.
"Quality is not a problem in Pakistan, but high rates of utilities particularly petroleum products, gas and electricity are making Pakistani products expensive and unable to compete world market", he said adding that it is imperative on the part of government to decrease the electricity and other utility rates and give incentives like tax holiday to industrialists.
Najam Rehan termed the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as back bone for the economic stability of the country and said that it will help the government to materialise its dreams of elimination of poverty, unemployment and economic stability. But, he added that sincere efforts should be made for this sector.
Earlier briefing the participants of the workshop about the main aim of holding such workshops, Resource Person of National Productivity Organisation, Hassan Haider said that main objective of the NPO is to prepare the business community about the challenges in world market.
He said that it is need of hour that business community of Pakistan should make preparations for a health competition in the international market. "We must make our efforts to utilise our resources in a way to occupy huge space in world market", he added. He said that proper utilisation of the resources would help in increase in the productivity, which would help in increase in the national income besides improving the living standard of the people.
