Punjab government has introduced many reforms through regeneration of existing resources, to achieve the target of providing better health care services to the masses, with focus on poor and unprivileged people in urban and rural areas. This was observed by Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed in a briefing to the World Bank President, James D. Wolfenson, as part of a provincial delegation comprising Education Minister Mian Imran Masood, additional chief secretary, Khushnood Akhtar Lashari, Chairman P&D, Salman Ghani, Secretary Finance, Salman Siddique and Secretary Education besides other high ranking officials of the province.
Dr Tahir Javed disclosed that in pursuant to the commitment at international level, the" Punjab government is implementing the global strategy of DOTS for control of TB, Polio, Malaria, Hepatitis and other fatal diseases, according to a press release issued here on Thursday.
He said maximum fund have been issued for this purpose by the government, while the co-operation of World Bank and other international donors agencies is also being sought.
The minister said Punjab has evolved a comprehensive strategy for strengthening environmental health measures through community-based initiatives, practical strategies and capacity building activities at the local level.
To provide modern health care facilities to the rural folk, 67 THQ hospitals in the province will be upgraded and doctors, lady doctors, equipment and necessary medicines will also be provided in these hospitals.
He said incentives are being provided to doctors, nurses and healthcare workers, with stipend for trainee specialist doctors increased up to Rs 10, 000 whereas specialist doctors have been offered Rs 25,000 per month salary for their appointment at THQ hospitals, he added.
