The low-lying areas were inundated and civic life remained disturbed as Karachi received downpour early Friday, while the Meteorological Department has forecast more rains in the next 24 hours. Many roads and streets submerged under rainwater resulting in slow pace of vehicular traffic. Reports of power failure were also reported from some areas. The Met Office, a couple of days ago, had forecast rains for the city.
The downpour continued for many hours with regular intervals. Rainwater was seen flowing on many roads and streets. The collapse of drainage system was also witnessed in some areas. The attendance in schools and offices remained thin and relatively a fewer buses and wagons were seen plying on the city roads. The motorcyclists had to bear the brunt as due to skidding off their two-wheelers on the slippery roads.
Those areas which received showers included Site Town, Baldia Town, Sher Shah, Gulbai, Tower, Kharadar, Old City, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Burns Road, Saddar, North Karachi, Sohrab Goth, Water Pump, Karimabad, Liaquatabad, Jehangir Road, Gurumandir, Numaish, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, University Road, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Nazimabad, Clifton, Shahrae Faisal and M.A. Jinnah Road.
Meanwhile, various town municipal administrations (TMAs) of the city have set up "rain emergency centres" at their respective towns, while Town Nazims inspected their areas. In Landhi Town, a complaint centre was set up in control room established for Muharram.
Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town Nazim Abdul Wahab visited different localities of his town and supervised municipal works. He also cancelled leaves of staff and set up rain emergency centre.
