Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) on Friday alleged that the provincial health department has failed to implement service structure of doctors in general cadre, which was approved in 1994. PMA Lahore, President Professor Dr Imtiaz Rasool told newsmen here on Friday that the health department had approved promotion cases of 2,500 doctors in grade 18 against 3,450 vacant posts, 60 female doctors in grade 19 against 535 vacant posts, while 507 doctors were promoted in grade 19 against 1,280 vacant posts.
Other office bearers of the association including General Secretary Dr Azim ud din Zahid, Finance Secretary Dr Shahid Malik, Vice President Dr Tanvir and Joint Secretary Dr Zahid Latif were also present on the occasion.
He regretted that promotion cases of a large number of doctors are pending mainly on account of queries raised by officer concerned of the health department. Most of the doctors have been retired without getting due promotions, he maintained.
To a question he said that unemployment among the doctors is increasing, therefore, the government must immediately fill in the vacant posts through Punjab Public Service Commission. The bureaucracy is also creating hurdles in implementation of the chief minister's policy regarding regularisation of doctors.
