Unidentified terrorists blew up gas pipeline here on Sunday night, after which gas supply to Gujranwala, Sialkot, Rawalpindi and Gujrat was suspended. The main gas pipeline over Nala Dek near Kalasha Kakoo industrial area, some 20km away from Lahore, burst with a big bang at about 9:00pm. On hearing the blast, nearby people rushed towards the spot resulting in suspension of traffic at G.T. Road which was later cleared by the motorway police.
The supervisor of Shahdara Main Gas Station, Rashid Haroon Wattoo, along with his two colleagues reached the spot.
After inspecting the pipeline, he told journalists that the pipeline was blown up by terrorists.
He said that this pipeline was blown up at the same place three months ago by some unknown terrorists and an FIR was lodged at Ferozwala police station.
When contacted, the management of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, ruling out the involvement of terrorists in the incident, said that the pipeline burst due to leakage.
