District government of Rawalpindi city has decided to ban the entry of the old vehicles on Murree Road and other main roads of the city in order to avoid the traffic jams. Taking serious note of the traffic jams on Murree Road and other roads of the city and Cantonment area, District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani has directed the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) and Traffic Department to present a comprehensive plan before February 15 to end these traffic jams.
Kiani while talking to reporters said: "It is imperative to launch a comprehensive traffic plan in the city in order to avoid traffic jams and control the uncontrolled traffic."
He said that old model vehicles would be banned on Murree Road in order to decrease the traffic pressure on this important road.
"We would allow the new vehicles providing better travelling facilities to masses", Kiani maintained.
In new transport system the district government would make sure that proper space would be allocated for handicap and senior citizens, he said, adding that substitute routes would be introduced for public transport in order to lessen the pressure on certain roads.
He said that district government was well aware of its responsibilities towards the masses and all possible measures would be taken to provide better transport facilities to the people.
