One full and five division benches have been appointed by Chief Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui to sit here during the next judicial week that opens from Monday. The only full bench will be the First Bench that is presided over by the chief justice and includes Justice Javed Iqbal and Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, and it will start the week with an appeal against the rejection of a habeas corpus petition by the Lahore High Court.
The appellant, Jamal Saeed Abdul Raheem, a foreigner, questions his detention under Pakistani Security laws for which the chief justice has put the Attorney General and the Advocate General of the Punjab under notice.
Most of the other cases assigned to various benches are appeals against the assessment of sales, income and customs duties either by the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) or the big or small corporate houses, manufacturing units.
