The Chief Engineer Irrigation Kotri Barrage has advised the management of HDA and Wasa to adopt precautionary measures in treatment of drinking water being supplied to the people of Hyderabad. Talking to press he said this advise was given in view of the poor availability of water in upstream of Kotri Barrage and to avoid reoccurrence of water borne diseases.
He said at present the discharge downstream of Sukkur Barrage is around 2000 cusecs which might further reduce, he further said that the quantum of water required for lifting by Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA) at upstream of Kotri Barrage would always available.
He, however, said that the management of HDA has been advised to check the quality of water daily and treat it properly before supplying it for human consumption. He also informed that water coming from downstream Sukkur Barrage is mixed up with the regenerated water between Sukkur and Jamshoro it is natural phenomenon and beyond the control of irrigation department, he added.
Meanwhile, according to Irsa authorities the water flow in river Indus has been considerably increase due widespread rains all over the country.
