The government on Sunday announced appointment of Salman Bashir as Pakistan's Ambassador to China, in place of Riaz Mohammad Khan who has been appointed the new foreign secretary. Salman Bashir, presently serving as Additional Secretary in ministry of foreign affairs, holds a Masters degree in history and a degree in LLB.
Born on March 4, 1952, he joined the Foreign Service in 1976 and has held various diplomatic assignments in Pakistan missions - Geneva 1980-84 and OIC Secretariat Jeddah 1988. Salman served at headquarters as section officer from 1976 to 1980, director 1985-1987 and director general 1995-1999.
He also served as Ambassador to Denmark from July 1999 to February 2003.
