Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Sunday visited the proposed site for relocation of US Consulate in Clifton area and other alternative places following intervention by the President Musharraf and the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. According to chief Minister House sources, Dr Arbab gave audience to a sixteen-member delegation of residents of area around proposed site for consulate, parents of pupil studying in the school existing in the area and other concerned citizens at the Chief Minister House.
The chief minister gave a patient hearing to the delegation who expressed their concern and reservations if consulate is shifted to the disputed place, a mix of amenity plots reserved for different amenities for the benefit of area residents.
Sindh Minister for Irrigation, Nadir Akmal Leghari, Sindh Chief Secretary, Aslam Sanjrani, Provincial Police Officer, Asad Jehangir Khan and Secretary Mineral Development, Abdul Hameed Akhund were also present at the meeting.
After a detailed meeting, Dr Arbab Rahim proceeded to the disputed place along with the delegation to apprise himself of the factual position on ground. He informed the delegation that the President and Prime Minister both have taken notice of the issue and have directed for resolving the same.
The delegation thanked the chief minister for interest taken by him to solve the issue concerning thousands of residents of Boat Basin area. Later, Dr Arbab Rahim went to Mai Kolachi Road and other areas where alternative places for consulate building were inspected.
